Emergency Home Repair Program

Facing an expensive repair? We can help!

What is the Emergency Home Repair Program?
The Emergency Home Repair Program (EHRP) provides financial and technical assistance to low- and moderate-income homeowners in Jefferson County for emergency and essential repairs to their home.

The EHRP offers homeowners the opportunity to make or keep their homes safe, decent, and affordable. It helps preserve home ownership by offering a means for low-income homeowners to do necessary work without the risk of losing the home to unmanageable debt.
What Qualifies?
Eligible work includes emergency and urgent work only. It may include, but is not limited to:

electrical, plumbing, furnace, water heater, accessibility, mitigation of lead-based paint hazards, roof/gutters, insulation and energy saving work, doors and windows, flooring repairs, wall repairs, and repairs for health and safety .

How can FRH help?

Financial Assistance: Qualified homeowners may receive assistance in the form of a grant, typically up to $5,000.
*For larger repairs, you may also apply for a zero-interest loan with a maximum of a 20-year loan term, or deferred if you qualify.

Westminster Residents: The City of Westminster provides additional grants up to $3,000 for water efficiency improvements and leak repairs.

Technical Assistance: We will help you get competitive bids and find a qualified contractor who can do quality work at a reasonable cost. We will also prepare the loan and construction documents, inspect the work, and authorize contractor payments as the work progresses. There is no cost to you for this assistance.

Who Qualifies?
  • You must be the owner of the home (title/deed in your name) and it must be your primary residence.
  • Your home must be located in the cities of Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Golden, Mountain View, or Westminster; unincorporated Jefferson County; or another participating community in Jefferson County.
    • This program is not open to Arvada residents. The City of Arvada has it's own EHR Program. If you live in Arvada please call (720) 898-7498.
  • Your total household income must be below the 80% AMI limit set by HUD (see table). These income limits are subject to change. For the Westminster Water Program, annual household income cannot exceed 60% AMI.
